THE PLACE.
From the southern shores of Lake Tanganyika in Northern Zambia to the shores of Lake Kariba; from the vast Barotse Floodplains to the rich wilderness of Zambia’s world renowned Luanga valley; from the sparkling waters of Lake Bangweulu and the endless surrounding wetlands to the spectacular beauty and abundance of the Busanga Plains in Kafue National Park; from the magnificent Victoria Falls to Zambia’s diverse cultural ceremonies… this is Zambia and this is the real Africa!
Zambia is fed and shaped by three great rivers, bordered by three massive lakes and big, big skies. The legendary missionary, David Livingstone first saw the awesome glory of the Victoria Falls from Zambia. His memory is enshrined in the nearby town of Livingstone and his heart is buried in this beautiful land.
THE PEOPLE
- Nearly half the population of Zambia is under the age of 15 years with a high infant mortality rate of 70/1000 live births.
- The Under 5 mortality rate is 120/1000 live births and the Maternal mortality rate is 60/1000 live births.
- 45% of children are malnourished and only 47% births are attended to by a skilled worker (Unicef 2010); The average life expectancy is just 37 years.
- Zambia is made up of 98.7% ethnic groups (Bemba is the predominant ethnic language), 1.1% European, and 0.2% other.
- Most of the population (86%) lives below the poverty line.

Zambia has one of the lowest population to land ratio’s in Africa.
Only 10 million people in a country half the size of Europe. The employment opportunities offered in the post independence era are in the copper mines and associated industries. This has led to a strong rural-urban migration. The result has been to make Zambia one of the most urbanised countries in Africa. About one fifth of the population lives on the Copperbelt to the north of the capital, but the biggest concentration of people is in Lusaka itself with an estimated population of over 2 million.
This has resulted in massive tracts of uninhabited land across the country.

Short Term Mission
As a general rule it is intended that people come in groups consisting of 6 people, as a cohesive unit, under the supervision of a recommended leader.
These field trips are not tourism ventures, though there will be the pleasures and thrills of overseas travel and the adventures of new experiences and places to visit. It is expected that all team members are well known to their group leader.
In-field Missionaries
Chris Shadbolt is from Christian Outreach Centre; Mackay has been in Kabwe since November 1999. Angela is Zambian born and Kabwe is where members of her extended family live.
Chris and Angie and their son Immanuel also live in Kabwe, Zambia. They return to Australia annually, usually during the Australian summer season.

The TTN Vision is..
To extend the Kingdom of God by taking the gospel to the people of Southern Central Africa, primarily in Zambia but also D R Congo, Tanzania, Mozambique, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
We work in partnership with the local evangelical church.
Short-term missionaries are apart of the TTN Ministries vision by being involved with TTN team members and their current projects.
Sharing the gospel and sharing your testimony is part of the Short Term Mission experience.
Assisting physically with any TTN projects is also an integral part of seeing God radically transforming peoples lives.
